Missions take over management of three Asante-Akim South schools

The African Methodist Episcopal (AME) and the Salvation Army have taken over the management of three basic schools in the Asante-Akim South District.

Bompata D/A Primary and Junior High Schools (JHS) are now under the AME Zion Education Unit with the Dampong D/A Primary, coming under the Salvation Army Education Unit.

This followed approval by the District Education Oversight Committee following request from the two missions.

Mr. Frank Yaw Musa, the District Director of Education, said the decision was taken after careful consideration and that it was in the best interest of the children, teachers and parents.

He appealed to the new managers to make the school environment academically friendly and added that under no circumstance should they harass and force out the teachers from the schools just to fix their favorites.

Mr Musa said the salary of the teachers would continue to be the responsibility of the government.

Mr. De-graft Fokuo, the District Chief Executive (DCE), said the expectation was that the performance of the schools would improve but the government would not hesitate to take them back if they begin to show signs of retrogression.

He appealed to the Education Directorate to closely monitor the performance of the mission schools to ensure that the right things are done.

“The watchword is quality, this must never be compromised,” he said.
