Mfantseman Municipal Assembly elects Presiding Member

Saltpond (C/R), Dec. 18, GNA - Nana Ataapim Kweenu VIII, Chief of Woraba near Cape Coast and Mankrado of Nkusukum Traditional Area was on Tuesday re-elected the Presiding Member of the Mfantseman Municipal Assembly for a second term.

Nana Ataapim Kweenu a retired banker polled 60 out of the 64 votes cast when his challenger, Mr Kofi Aikins, a member of Ekumfi Essarkyir Electoral Area stepped down after the second ballot ended 40-23 in favour of the chief.

In an acceptance speech, Nana Kweenu thanked members for the confidence reposed in him.

He said he would make improvement in internal generated fund his main focus, so as to raise enough revenue to meet the programmes of the assembly. He said he would create a cordial working relationship between members of the assembly and Members of Parliament for the area. Mr Robert Quainoo Arthur, Municipal Chief Executive urged the assembly to think about building the capacity of it members, to enable them to be conversant with local government administration as well as issues affecting the nation.

Mr Quainoo-Arthur whose term of office ends in January 2009, expressed gratitude to President John Agyekum Kufuor for giving him the opportunity to serve his people.

He thanked members of the assembly, and MPs from the area for their support and co-operation.

Madam Mary Bibiana Oduro, the District Magistrate led the Presiding Member to swore the oath of secrecy and that of office. 18 Dec. 08
