Metro Mass Transit workers’ strike hit Cape Coast

Travelers who trooped to the Metro Mass Transit Terminal in Cape Coast, on Monday morning to use their services were left stranded.

The workers of the Company had begun an indefinite strike to press home their demand for the dismissal of their Deputy MD and the board chairman.

The aggrieved workers had blocked the entrance of the bus terminal to prevent passengers from entering the yard as well as buses from going out.

The passengers, mostly students, had gone to the station as early as 04:00 hours.

When the Ghana News Agency got to there at 0720 hours it observed that some drivers with sprinter buses were taking advantage of the situation to convey passengers to their destinations at extra cost.

Mr. Amos Imprani, the Senior Staff Chairman at Cape Coast MMT, said the strike action was necessary because the disappearance of the 12 buses from the various terminals recently was a very serious issue that needed attention.

He said MMT workers did not take delight in frustrating passengers who patronized their buses, but the action was necessary to protect the assets of the state.
