Members of Rotary Club present litter bins to New Juaben Municipal

Assembly

Koforidua, July 17, GNA - Members of Rotary Club of New Juaben have presented 150 litter bins worth 2,000 Ghana cedis to New Juaben Municipal Assembly to help improve waste management and sanitation in the municipality. They are the initial consignment to be placed at vantage points in the municipality. Mr Eric Osei-Tutu, an Executive Member of the Club, presenting the bins, said they would in addition construct permanent concrete litter bins at vantage points to prevent people from stealing them.

Nana Adjei-Boateng, New Juaben Municipal Chief Executive, who received the items thanked the Club for the gesture. He said it was important for people to see the environment as a critical issue other than looking up to the assembly as the sole institution responsible to keep the environment clean. Nana Adjei-Boateng appealed to the members and stakeholders on sanitation to embark on an intensive education of the public to appreciate the need to dispose off waste in an acceptable manner. He announced that government had approved the construction of modern markets at all regional capitals including Koforidua from revenue accrued from the sale of Golden Jubilee bonds.

Nana Adjei-Boateng said the markets would be designed to include a day care centre, a clinic, a bank, a fuel station and other facilities. Ms Bernice Boateng, New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary aspirant for New Juaben South, urged women to support their children's education to become useful citizens in future.
