Member of Parliament institutes vacation classes for his constituents

Mankessim (C/R), Aug. 11, GNA – Mr Aquinas Tawiah Quansah, Member of Parliament for the Mfantseman West has instituted vacation classes for Senior High School students in his constituency.

The classes, being held at Kwegyir Aggrey Senior High School at Anomabo, Mfantsiman Girls Senior High School at Saltpond and Mankessim Senior High/Technical School, cover six core subjects.

Speaking at the three centres to inaugurate the classes, Mr Quansah who is a Deputy Minister for Local Government and Rural Development said he had decided to make the classes an annual affair to support SHS students to pass the West African Secondary School Certificate Examinations (WASSCE) well to enable them to get admissions into the universities.

He noted that admissions into the universities had become very competitive and students needed to score high marks in the WASSCE to be admitted.

Mr Quansah said he had provided free exercise books, transports to convey the students to and from the centres and had also provided some allowances for the tutors.

He urged the students to take the classes very seriously to make the month-long programme a success.

The Deputy Minister said science quiz would be organised between the centres at the end of the programme for which laptop computers would be awarded to those who would win.

He appealed to the students to offer maximum cooperation to the tutors and try to keep the centres clean and take good care of the facilities.

Mr Henry Kweku Hayfron, Municipal Chief Executive, advised the students to make good use the opportunity offered by the MP, and to comport themselves well during the programme.

Mr Hayfron reminded the students to bear in mind that education was the best legacy parents and other stakeholders could bequeath to their children.

He commended the MP for instituting the programme and advised the students and their parents to pray for long life and strength for the MP to enable him to sustain the programme.

More than 2,000 students had registered at the three centres with Mankessim Senior High/Technical registering 850 students.
