Mawuko Girls get endowment fund

An Endowment Fund, initiated by Togbe Afede XIV, Agbogbomefia of Asogli last year for Mawuko Girls Senior High School in Ho was formally launched at the school’s premises Saturday.

The envisaged revolving seed money is expected to grow to GHC500,000.00 from Togbe Afede’s initial GHC10,000.00 startup.

The Fund is to support promising but poor students.

Togbe Kotoku XI, Paramount Chief of Kpenoe, who represented Togbe Afede at the launch said reminiscences of the Agbogbomefia days in secondary school when he had to be out from campus for months because his fees were in arrears, motivated him to found the Fund.

He said it is important that successful people trace their steps back, reflect, and give help when there is a need.

Both Francis Yaw Korwu, Chairman of the School Board and Mrs Agnes Afesi-Afonu Headmistress said the Fund was a dream come true, to serve as financial support for students when the going got tough.

Dickson Ogordor, Deputy Director Finance and Administration at the Volta Regional Directorate of Ghana Education Service (GES) who formally launched the Fund advised that there should be clear guidelines on who qualifies for support.

Togbe Afede mooted the idea of the Endowment Fund at the school’s 30 anniversary celebration in March 2014.

Togbe Afede is Life Patron of the Fund while Togbe Kwaku Dzaga XI is Chairman of the Board of Trustees.

A representative of Mr Benjamin Kpodo Member of Parliament, (MP), Ho-Central presented GHC20,000.00 to the Fund on his behalf.

The Evangelical Presbyterian Church Ghana which founded the school, gave GH¢1,000.00.
