Man goes in for 10 years for defiling a girl

Wa, Sept. 10, GNA - A Wa Circuit Court has sentenced a 28- year-old mason, Peter Akpe to 10 years' imprisonment for defiling a four-year-old girl.

Akpe pleaded guilty to the charge but appealed to the Presiding Judge, Mr R.C.A Azumah to be lenient with him, citing the devil as the cause of his action.

Prosecuting, Inspector Stephen Dobara told the court that the convict stays with his elder brother, who is a co-tenant of the victim's mother.

Some of the tenants use to view television in the two brothers' room and on August 31 the victim went alone to view the television but Akpe defiled the girl.

The little girl left the room in tears and made a sign towards her private part when she got to her mother, the Prosecutor told the court. Her mother, who initially did not understand what the girl was about, later inspected her vagina and found some fluid dripping from it. Inspector Dobara said the girl led her mother to identify Akpe.

The Prosecutor said he admitted defiling the girl and pleaded for forgiveness.

The girl was sent to the Wa Regional Hospital for medical examination and the result revealed the presence of sperm in her vagina but her hymen was not broken.
