Madman inflicts machete wounds on a farmer's head

Dormaa Ahenkro (BA), Sept. 16, GNA - Kwame Tweneboa, believed to be a madman at Asuotiano in the Dormaa-East of the Brong-Ahafo Region, is being held by the Wamfie Police for allegedly inflicting deep machete wounds on the head of Yaw Gyaabeng, a farmer.

Gyaabeng's wounds have since been sutured at the Dormaa Presbyterian Hospital where he was receiving medical attention. Chief Inspector A. A. Duodu of Wamfie Police Station, who confirmed the incident in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, said his outfit was doing all it could to ensure that mentally retarded patients were not exposed to the danger of the rest of the society.

While some eye-witnesses in Asuotiano blamed the victi m for jeering the alleged madman, Gyaabeng insisted that the madman rather attacked him when he and other friends attempted to rescue an old lady and children Tweneboa (madman) was chasing with the machete. Gyaabeng said he tried to stop the madman from catching up with the old woman and sensing danger from him and his colleagues, Tweneboa turned the cutlass on him. An eyewitness confirmed that Tweneboa was one of many lunatics in the area, who comes to Asuotiano occasionally to descend threaten people especially women on their way to the farm.
