MTN MTN

Telecommunication giant, MTN Ghana, has donated a cheque for GHc 5,000, recharge cards worth GHc 500, souvenirs and assorted items to Essikadu Traditional Area, towards this year’s Kuntum festival.

The company has also devoted GHc 40, 000 to organise community gala, concert and other social activities during the celebration in August.

Mr Laud Nii Ayi Armah, Acting Western Regional Senior Manager of MTN, made the donation on behalf of the company at a ceremony at Essikadu, at the weekend.

He thanked the Paramount Chief of Essikadu, Nana Kobina Nketsia V, for accepting the invitation to tee-off with the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of MTN Ghana, Mr Ebenezer Asante at the MTN CEO Invitational Golf Tournament slated for Saturday, July 25, at the Takoradi Sports Club.

Mr Armah indicated that as part of its corporate social responsibilities, it has undertaken a number of projects in the region.

It includes the renovation of Sekondi library, refurbishment of antenatal unit of Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital and building of a classroom block for Ahantaman Girls Senior High School.

Others are the construction of a three-unit classroom block at Wassa Odumase and donation of Information Communication Technology equipment to Tarkwa Senior High School and Assin Fosu College of Education.

Mr Armah commented the Planning Committee of the Essikadu Kuntum festival for choosing the theme: “Re-dedication of the country to traditional values,” describing it as appropriate.

He expressed optimism that it would serve as reminder to Ghanaians about the values of unity, integrity and respect for the elderly that bind the people together.

Nana Nketsia V, expressed appreciation to MTN for the support and the company to continue supporting the society to enhance the socio-economic development of the country.

He admonished Ghanaians to go back to their roots and adopt the traditional values that identify them as Africans “so that we can chart a proper legacy for the future generation”.

He suggested the need for a museum to be constructed to remember personalities like Kpobee Biney and his predecessor, Nana Kobina Nketsia the IV, who started the struggle for Ghana’s independence.
