MP donates books to schools in his constituency

Bekwai (Ash), Aug 1, GNA - Mr Joe Osei-Owusu, Member of Parliament (MP) for Asante-Bekwai, has donated large quantities of assorted reading and text books to the Bekwai Municipal Directorate of Education to be distributed to basic and Senior High Schools in his constituency. The books worth GHC20,000 is to help inculcate reading habits in the pupils and students as well as enhancing teaching and learning. Making the donation at Bekwai, Mr Osei-Owusu said education was the key to development and that if children were not well educated, the country's socio-economic advancement will be a mirage.

He said motivation and decent accommodation for teachers in the municipality, especially those in the rural areas, will be his top priority, to enable them to give off their best and raise the standard of education.

The MP urged parents to encourage their wards to learn and stop them from roaming about aimlessly and watching video shows. Mr Samuel Ansah, the Municipal director of Education, thanked the MP for the gesture and assured that the books would be fairly distributed.

He called on Circuit Supervisors to step up their monitoring system at schools to ensure effective teaching and also ensure that absentee teachers are sanctioned.
