MP commends community for establishing school

Nkwabeng (B/A), Oct. 5, GNA - Mr Kwame Ampofo-Twumasi, Member of Parliament (MP) for Nkoranza South, has commended the chiefs and people of Kwabre for pooling their resources to establish a senior high school in the area.

Mr Ampofo-Twumasi, who is also Deputy Minister of Energy, was addressing a forum at Nkwabeng to explain some government policies to the people.

He described the people, particularly the opinion leaders, as responsible citizens who had vision and foresight, "since education is the bedrock of development".

The MP called on them to continue to support and contribute immensely to the school project and assured them that he would assist them to make their dream a reality.

Mr Ampofo-Twumasi advised parents to minimize huge expenses on frivolous activities and to invest their resources in the education of their children so that they would grow to become useful citizens. He later presented 16 street bulbs valued at GHC300 (30 million cedis) to enhance the lighting system in the community.

Mr Kwame Baffoe-Duah, Assemblyman for the Teboaso electoral area of Nkwabeng commended the MP for his support.

He said the school, which would be sited at Akuma, would cater for communities including Nkwabeng, Brahoho, Abuontam, Baanofour, Donkro-Nkwanta, Makyinabre, Kyeradeso and Salamkrom. Mr Baffoe-Duah condemned the high rate of indiscipline among the youth in the area and appealed to the MP to arrange for the establishment of a police post to check the trend. Nana Kyere Kuffour, Santanhene of Nkoranza traditional area and chief of Nkwabeng, urged the people to remain united and to cooperate with each other towards the development of the area.
