MHMT has far-reaching activities

Akim Oda (E/R), July 13, GNA – Mr Yaw Asante-Ayimadu, Nutrition Officer for the Birim Central Health Management Team (MHMT) on Wednesday explained that the cardinal objective of the Nutrition Unit of the Ghana Health Service (GHS) is to help improve dietary habits, lifestyle and nutrition status of the people.

Mr Asante-Ayimadu of the district’s NHMT was speaking to the Ghana News Agency at Akim Oda in the Birim Central Municipality.

The Nutrition Officer explained that the Unit implemented policies and rendered services that could impact effectively and efficiently on the nutritional status of people in the Municipality.

He said the way forward to good nutrition was to strengthen the vitamin ‘A’ supplementation programme and promote better infant growth through optimal breast-feeding and appropriate infant feeding.

He observed that dealing with food and nutrition was a task that involved many sectors and which also concerned everyone.

The Nutrition Officer said there were no funds or food aid for the malnourished children at the Nutrition Rehabilitation Centre.

“It is only when individuals and benevolent organisations support the MHMT that it can achieve positive results”, he stated.

Mr Asante-Ayimadu appealed to stakeholders to support the MHMT’s programmes, since the Health Ministry alone could not finance the numerous activities.
