MCE hands over 600 dual desks to schools

Tarkwa July 23, GNA - The Municipal Chief Executive for Tarkwa Nsueam Assembly, Mrs Christina Kobinah has handed over 600 dual desks to schools in the municipality.

The desks, financed by the District Development Facility, were presented to the Municipal Director of Education Mrs. Catherine Davis.

Twelve basic schools in the municipality would receive the desks, valued at GHC 59,700, to lessen their furniture problems.

The beneficiary schools include Kadawen M.A primary, Nkwanta M.A Basic, Dompim Fairfield Basic, Aklika M.A primary, Tarkwa Islamic Junior High School and Tarkwa John Taylor M.A Basic school.

The rest are Enyinase M.A primary, Amantin M.A Basic, Chichiwere M.A Basic, Nsueam M.A ‘A’ Basic, Nkran Nyanso M.A Basic and Memahomo M.A Primary.

Speaking at the handing over ceremony in Tarkwa, the MCE said the assembly visited some schools in the community and discovered that the schools lacked adequate furniture, which prompted the assembly to provide the dual desk.

The MCE said most primary schools, during his term of office, had been provided with Junior High classroom blocks, which had reduced the long distance the children walk to continue their education after completing the primary stage.

Mrs. Kobinah said despite government’s efforts to make education affordable for all, some children of school going age, still loiter around galamsey sites with their parents.

The MCE stressed the need for parents to invest in the education of their girl child, so as to prepare them for an independent life and their future.

Mrs Davies thanked the MCE for the kind gesture and promised to take good care of the items.
