MCE cuts sod for construction of new school block

Mr. Gordon Kwaku Asubonteng, the Dormaa Municipal Chief Executive, over the weekend cut the sod for the construction of a new six-unit classroom block in honour of the late Osagyefo Oseadeyo Agyemang Badu I, once a Paramount Chief of the Dormaa Traditional Area.

The new school project, the Agyemang Badu Basic School, would serve as a memorial for Oseadeyo Agyemang Badu 1, for the good legacies he left behind in the area.

Speaking at a short ceremony to break grounds for the start of the project, Mr. Gordon Asubonteng stated that, the Assembly was also undertaking the project to give the school a face-lift and expand its territory because the old school site had limited land.

The MCE stated that education was a vital ingredient for the development of every society, adding that, “even though Ghana was richly endowed with natural resources, it continued to wallow under the shackles of poverty.”

He added that, there was the urgent need for huge investment in the human resource base of the country, as that was the only option to reverse the country’s underdeveloped status.

Mr. Asubonteng added that, the assembly was committed to promoting quality education, hence, the resolve to turn the school into a model school and one of the best in the Municipality.

The MCE said the project would be constructed by Petmat Construction Limited, based in Dormaa – Ahenkro within eight months period.

Mr Isaac Nsiah Edwards, the Municipal Director of Education, expressed appreciation to the assembly and Nananom for giving out the land for the construction of the school.

He appealed to the authorities to arrest parents, who allowed their children to roam about aimlessly during school hours, and ensure proper moral upbringing of children.
