Little Angels Centre celebrates anniversary

Sunyani, Aug. 24, GNA - Little Angels Early Childhood Development Centre in Sunyani has celebrated its 10th anniversary with a call on parents to show greater commitment to the education of their children. Mrs Comfort Gyamfi, Proprietress of the Centre who made the call expressed appreciation for the continued co-operation between parents and the school authorities but noted that some problems needed to be addressed.

"The mode of payment of school fees is not encouraging as funds are needed to provide basic amenities to make the classrooms more comfortable for effective teaching and learning," she added. Mrs Gyamfi expressed concern about the deplorable drainage system at the centre and appealed to the Sunyani Municipal Assembly to address the problem.

She appealed to Government to extend some of the privileges enjoyed in public schools to the privately owned childhood development centres, such as the Capitation grant, syllabus, stationery and library books. Mrs Gyamfi said about 1,000 children had graduated from the centre within the past 10 years.

Mrs Akua Debrah, Brong Ahafo Regional Director of Education in an address read for her, said the national early childhood education policy was to enhance children's physical, social, emotional, spiritual and cognitive development.

"All these begin to manifest when children leave their home to the centres to meet friends and peers to play, laugh, share and learn together. It promotes tolerance and good nation building among them," she added.

Mrs Debrah said the educational reforms sought to promote child health, survival and in addition, reduce disparities in education between developed and developing countries.
