Lightning kills two on farm

Breman Nwomaso (C/R), June 28, GNA - Tragedy hit Breman Nwomaso in the Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa district on Thursday when lightning struck a pineapple plantation killing two women instantly with five others unconscious.

The victims were identified as Amina Apeaah, aged 48, from Breman Nwomaso, Nana Adwoa, 45, from Ajumako Kokoben. The Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa District, acting Coordinating Director of the National Disaster Management Organization, (NADMO), Mr Sallas Awotwe, made this known to the Ghana News Agency in Breman Asikuma. He said while the seven were working on a pineapple plantation farm at Breman Nwomaso on Thursday June 25, which was a taboo day when nobody is permitted to work on a farm, the lightning struck them. He said some of the unaffected farm labourers managed to send the victims and the dead to the Our Lady of Grace Hospital at Breman Asikuma.

The five who were admitted and discharged the following day are Afua Nyamekye 35, Rose Odoom, 45, both from Ajomako Kokoben, Hagar Anamoa, 25, from Breman Bedum, Kweame Oppong, 60, a security man on the plantation and Abudu Razak, 26, a student from Nwomaso. The bodies have been deposited at mortuary of hospital.
