Let's fight child labour - Chief

Suhum (E/R), Oct. 2, GNA - Baffour Osubroni Kwao-Yumu II, Chief of Aponopono in the Suhum-Kraboa-Coaltar District, has appealed to traditional authorities and religious bodies to help complement government's efforts at fighting child labour in the society.

He said child trafficking and labour is a threat to the nation's fut= ure development thus every effort must be made to reduce and eliminate them. Baffour Osubroni made the appeal at a farmers rally organised by the Suhum district office of the COCOBOD at Aponopono. He called on parents not to shirk their responsibilities, adding they should do everything possible to protect the interest of their children and send them to school.

Baffour Osubroni said Aponopono is a predominantly cocoa growing area and appealed to COCOBOD to help provide a durable road network for the society.

Mr Michael Gyasi and Mr Joseph Donkor, both District Officers of the Cocoa Swollen Shoot Virus Disease Unit of the COCOBOD, advised parents on how their children could assist them on farms and how to avoid subjecting them to laborious work. Mr Gyasi informed the farmers of board's appreciation for achieving the one million tonnage target.
