A prominent legal practitioner in Kumasi, Lawyer Michael Kwabena Atta Adjei was enstooled as Otumfuo’s Anantahene during a colourful traditional ceremony at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi.

The new traditional leader, with the stool name, Baffuor Agyei Fosu Twetweakwa II replaced Baffuor Appiah Danquah III who reigned for 21 years.

According to Asante tradition, the Anantahene, who is a fierce warrior, is the Asantehene’s trusted and personal bodyguard who must work assiduously to ensure that the security of Otumfuo is intact all the time.

Baffuor Twetweakwa II successfully swore allegiance to his overlord Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene who sat in state during the historic ceremony.

Several judges, lawyers, clergy men, businessmen, among others, converged on Manhyia Palace to witness the memorable inauguration of the Anantahene.

In his succinct address at the event, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II praised the Anantahene for playing vital role in transforming Asanteman through the legal fraternity even before his installation.

He urged Baffuor Twetweakwa II to diligently learn the Asante tradition and combine it with his rich knowledge of the law to ensure the progress of Asanteman and for that matter, Ghana.

The Asantehene said he was confident that his traditional bodyguard, who has a spectacular track-record as a lawyer, would live up to expectation, calling for total support for the new Anantahene.

Baffuor Agyei Fosu Twetweakwa II, 39, later in an interview with DAILY GUIDE, promised to support Otumfuo’s developmental agenda in the areas of education, environment and health, just to mention a few.

The new chief, who was cheerful, wholeheartedly thanked the Asantehene for the honour done to him, calling on the people to support him to rally behind Otumfuo to positively transform Asanteman.
