Kwaebibirem has prospects for investment into agro-industry

Asuom (E/R), Nov. 23, GNA - The Kwaebibirem District Chief Executive, Mr Yaw Yiadom-Boakye, has observed that the District has the capacity to be transformed into the biggest agro-industrial estate in the country.

He said the fast increasing population of the District was also an indication that it could provide the necessary labour force and the needed market to support an agro-processing industry.

This was contained in a speech read for him at the 21st annual general meeting of the Kwaebibirem Rural Bank at Asuom, Mr Yiadom-Boakye expressed his appreciation of the relationship between the Oil Palm Research Institute of the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research at Kusi and the University of Ghana's Agricultural Research Centre at Okumaning and the Ghana Oil Palm Development Company, which undertake large scale production of palm oil for both domestic and industrial consumption.

He said the performance of small-scale oil palm and citrus farmers in the District indicated that given the necessary support the District could go a long way in its agro-industrialization efforts. Mr Yiadom-Boakye appealed to financial institutions in the area to support the small-scale oil palm and citrus farmers and the producers of palm oil and fruit juice to enable them to maintain their status in the overall production process and even expand beyond their present levels. 23 Nov. 06
