Kuga Na's farm destroyed by bush fire

Kuga (N/R) Dec. 4 GNA – Ten hectares of maize belonging to Kuga Na Adam Abdulai II was yesterday destroyed by bushfire near Kuga in Yendi Municipality of Northern Region.

A farmer Mahama Mahami who owns a farm in the same vicinity said that the maize farm was on fire when he got to his farm and then rushed to Kuga Na to inform him about the fire.

He said when the people got to the farm which is about 48 kilometers from Kuga township the entire farm had been destroyed by the fire whose source is still a mystery.

Kuga Na said he does not suspect any foil play rather the fire could be as a result of bush burning by reckless individuals.

He also said information reaching his palace show that a number of other farms with soya beans, rice, guinea corn and rice have been destroyed as a result of the same fire.

He called on chiefs, assembly members, unit committees and farmers to be vigilant and report people who go about burning the bush to the appropriate authorities for their arrest and prosecution.

Kuga Na invited the Personnel of the Ghana Fire Service to visit the destroyed farm and appealed to the Ministry of Food and Agriculture to make available combine harvesters for farmers to harvest their rice.
