Krachi NPP Cries To Kufuor

...DCE, REGIONAL CHAIRMAN SUFFOCATING THEM. ?8 MILLION BLOWN TO POSTPONE CONGRESS
‘Chronicle’ can tell that Kete-Krachi, the constituency known to have many zealous and firebrand NPP activists, which also took Mr. Kufuor to the Castle and stood out tall in the 2000 Presidential run-off election, is being deliberately and slowly suffocating to death.

The near strangulation of the party in that area is glaringly seen by members as the handwork of those entrusted to oversee the party’s affairs.

Relievingly though, the zonal leadership in the constituency who has resolved to save the party, has sent an SOS message to the National Chairman, Mr. Haruna Esseku, with copies to His Excellency, President Kufuor and the Volta Regional Minister, Mr. Kwesi Owusu Yeboah, to intervene before things get out of hand.

In a three-page petition dated March 26,2003 and signed by representatives of five of the seven zones in the constituency, on behalf of their members said the unnecessary postponement of the executive elections is destroying the NPP in the area.

The petitioners claim that Mr. Ken Nuworsu, the acting Regional Chairman and third Vice Regional Chairman, Mr. Kwamena Twentor, whose position is not even recognized in the partys’ constitution have grouped up to gag members.

Members have however warned that they would resist any attempt of Mr. Nuworsu to conduct any elections for them because they felt he was part of the problem.

The papers’ investigations have revealed the fact that, even though, the congress was suspended a couple of times, the latest one alone which was called off two clear weeks ahead of schedule was said to have cost ?8m.

It is not clear whose money was wasted. Meanwhile, the Regional Chairman of the NDC in the region, Mr. Modestus Ahiable, has stated that it will be a mystery for the NPP to win even a seat in the region.
