Kanda reading club wins competition

The Kanda Reading, had been adjudged winners of the MTN/JOY FM reading club competition in Accra.

The club, which won in the junior and senior categories, took a trophy and cash prize.

The MTN/Joy FM Reading Club project is an educational initiative designed to rekindle interest in reading amongst basic school children and to establish reading clubs that would challenge students to develop more interest in reading.

Mrs Cynthia Lumor, the Executive Director MTN Ghana Foundation, said the ceremony confirmed that MTN was really passionate about transforming the lives of people through impactful social intervention programmes.

She said research showed that a direct link between literacy, economic growth and improved health and encouraged children to take the opportunity to read beyond the competition.

“Our ultimate hope is that participants will acquire that habit of reading for life,” she added.

She said the foundation was committed to contributing to national development through improved access to education; it was also deeply involved in health and economic empowerment projects across the country.

Participants for this year’s competition are from Ablekumah, Burma Camp, Osu and Kanda Reading Clubs.

At the end of the competition, four winners received cash prize, a weekend stay at Beige village and an educational trip to the Bunso Arboretum forest reserve.
