Kalba community appeals for police station

Kalba, (N/R), Jan. 23, GNA- The people of Kalba, a farming Community, in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba district of the Northern Region, has appealed to the Inspector General of Police to as a matter urgency establish a police station in the area.

Mr Matthew Jormah, a youth leader in the community, who made the request on behalf of the people, expressed worry about the high rate of theft and other criminal activities, which were affecting security and development of the area.

The youth leader was speaking at the inauguration of 45 million cedis radiotelephone facility at the weekend in Kaliba. He said that livestock, food crops and motorbikes belonging to the people were being stolen and sent to neighbouring Cote d'Ivoire and Burkina Faso.

"As a hardworking community with a population of about 5,400 people, we need maximum security to safeguard our interest and property in our neighbourhood,'' Mr Jormah said.

Mr Donald Dari Sordjetey, Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, pledged that part of his share of the MP's common fund would be used to acquire telephone facilities to facilitate socio-economic activities. He appealed to the people to remain united irrespective of their political differences, to enable them to harness their human and natural resources for the development of the area.

Mr Sordjetey noted that the provision of a radiotelephone facility in the area had brought relieve to the people since they would no longer travel almost 40 kilometres to Tuna to make telephone calls.
