KETASCO '82 year group inaugurated

Keta (V/R), Nov. 25, GNA - The 1982 year-group of the Keta Secondary School Old Students Association (KOSA) was inaugurated in a grand style at the weekend at Keta in the Volta Region. The inaugural ceremony was well designed to promote healthy interaction among the present and past students to create a platform for discussing and solving problems facing the school. Addressing the gathering, the Keta District Director of Education, Mr. Simon K. Dewotor described KETASCO as one of the best and leading secondary schools in the country.

Mr. Dewotor emphasised that statistics available on second cycle schools coupled with his personal observation had shown that the school's academic performance as well as extra curricula activities including sports, music and culture had put it on a high pedestal. The Director advised the students and staff not to be complacent but rather work harder to sustain the enviable achievements of the school and justify the high esteem in which it was held. The Headmaster of the school, Mr. J.Y. Deku appealed to all well meaning people and other year groups to come forward and contribute their quota to the school, saying, "whatever we possess today were free gifts from old students of the school."

Mr. Deku, however, maintained that those year groups that had already contributed in cash and kind, should not be tired of giving more and as he put it, "The Good Old Lord is always pleased with a cheerful giver."

The National President of KOSA '82 year group, Mr. Paul Sallah presented three swivel chairs worth over five million cedis to the school in appreciation of the school's outstanding academic performance and achievements in science and mathematics quiz competitions. The rest of the executive members of the '82 year group were named as Kofi Ashibre Mensah, Secretary, Selorm Fiador, Organiser, Cecilia Adjavon, Assistant Secretary and Esinam Adisenu-Doe, Treasurer. The Chairman of the occasion, Mr. Bernard Dumashie advised the students to take inspiration from the past students who had excelled in both academic and professional circles.

Mr. Dumashie who is currently the oldest member of the Board of Directors of the school, and old student himself and a former Headmaster of the school, had received several awards of distinction for his meritorious services to the school and the District. Present at function were Torgbi Gatsico IV and other traditional rulers and Mr. Arcman Chris Ackumey, a parliamentary candidate of the Reform Party.
