KAMA Group CEO installed New Juaben chief

Dr. Michael Kwabena Agyekum Addo, owner of KAMA Group and Chairman of the prestigious club 100 Group of companies has been installed Nkabomhene (Unity Chief) for New Juaben Traditional Area in the Eastern region.

At a colorful traditional ceremony on Monday, Dr. Agyekum Addo swore the Oath of Allegiance to Daasebre Prof. Emeritus Oti Boateng with stool name Nana Addo Agyekum.

Dr. Agyekum Addo who is also an Elder of the Church of Pentecost was heavily supported by a delegation of Pastors of the Church.

Daasebre Oti Boateng expressed optimism that, Nana Addo Agyekum would help foster unity in the traditional area especially as Ghana is heading towards a major general election.

Daasebre Oti Boateng advised sub-chiefs to desist from unnecessary legal battles which generate disputes and retrogress developments in the traditional area.

He said the traditional structures must be used to resolve chieftaincy disputes instead of the Court because the Court cannot install or destool a Chief under the Chieftaincy Act.

Nana Addo Agyekum who was driven through the streets of the New Juaben Municipality for introduction to the public amidst dancing and drumming by the residents and family members told Starr News that unity is key to development hence he will ensure that all disputes in the traditional area are resolved.

He also announced plans to revive education and empower the youth to be entrepreneurs to reduce unemployment. Two other Chiefs including Okogyeaman Ankamah Basapong, Chief of Sushen also swore an Oath of Allegiance to the Omanhene.

The Inspector General of Police. Dr.John Kudalor, who is visiting the region also paid a courtesy call on the Omanhene.

Background of Dr. Michael Agyekum

DR. Michael Agyekum born in Sushen in the New Juaben Municipality of the Eastern region, is an accomplished businessman, entrepreneur and a motivational speaker.

He entered Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology to read Bachelor of Pharmacy degree in 1972. Dr. Agyekum has served and continues to serve with humility and wisdom in various capacities in institutions performing notable services.

He is currently the Chairman of the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre and Chairman of the International Red Cross Society of Ghana.

He is also the Chairman of Pentecost University College Council, Member of the National Development planning Commission, honorary lectureship in the Dispensing Technician’s Course at Kumasi Polytechnic between 1984 and 1997 and Michigan University in the United States of America, 2012.

He is a Resource person for Plan Parenthood Association of Ghana (PPAG) In the period, 1980-2000, he served the Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana in various capacities as Regional Executive Member, National Disciplinary Committee Member, Regional Chairman and National President of General Practice Pharmacists Association.

For his unparalleled contribution to the development of the Pharmacy profession in Ghana, his peers honoured him with the Fellowship of the West African Postgraduate College of Pharmacists and the Pharmaceutical society of Ghana in 2000.

In November 2005, the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi honoured him with the degree of Doctor of Science, Honoris Causa in recognition with of these and many other meritorious achievements, his Alma Mater.

He was a member of the committee for the establishment of the KNUST School of Business and currently chairman for the Ashanti Regional Alumni Chapter. He holds a Post-Graduate Diploma and Master’s degree in Industrial Management and was honoured by the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology with a Doctor of Science on 26 November, 2005.

After his registration as a Pharmacist, he went into practice obtaining valuable professional experience in his work with the then GIHOC Pharmaceuticals Division Accra (1978-79) and Boots Chemist, London (1979-80).

He cut his teeth in business when worked as Production Manager for Wrosubon Pharmaceuticals, Kumasi (1980-1986). Dr. Agyekum is a strong crusader against fake pharmaceutical products and has won recognition for his relentless efforts.

In 2003 and 2004, he won the prestigious Kwame Nkrumah Award for Excellence in Enterprise.
