June 3 victim’s sons receive scholarship

Suhum Municipal Assembly and Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), have donated GHC20,000 to the two sons of the late Ms Millicent Osae who with her daughter died in the June 3, twin disaster in Accra.

The AMA delegation led by Mr Joseph Otu, Accra Metropolitan Coordinator of National Disaster Management Organisation and Madam Dorinda Owusu Acheampong, Assistant Director of the AMA, donated the money on behalf of government to the bereaved family.

Mr Samuel Kwabi Kwapong Flestcher, Suhum Municipal Chief Executive also announced a scholarship package to Master Maclean Debra and Master Kelvin Mireku for their upkeep to the senior high school level, during the funeral ceremony of the deceased at Suhum on Saturday, July 25.

Mr Godfred Nyanteh, an elder brother of Ms Osae received the money on behalf of the family.

Mr Flestcher, expressed condolences to the bereaved family, adding that the June 3 disaster was a national tragedy.

He expressed the hope that the people would change their attitudes towards the environment to curb future occurrence.

“This is the right time for all of us to realise that dumping of refuse into drains have negative effect on the economy,” adding: “We have to learn from this negative attitude and improve the environment and reduce disaster risks,” he said.

Mr Flestcher urged the people to collaborate with the assembly to enhance disaster risks reduction efforts and explore preparedness strategies.

Mr Nyanteh expressed gratitude to the government and the Suhum Assembly for the aid.
