Journalists attend maritime seminar

Tema, May 01, GNA - The Ghana Shippers' Council (GSC) has organized a day's seminar for journalists in Tema to enable them to have adequate knowledge and report accurately on the maritime industry. Topics treated included the "Overview of the Maritime Industry, The Port as a Link in the Transport Chain, Freight Forwarders as Logistics Providers and the Role of the Ghana Shipper's Council in the Industry". Mr Kofi Mbiah, Chief Executive Officer of GSC giving an overview of the country's maritime industry said to properly develop the industry all stakeholders must complement each other's efforts.

Mr Mbiah stressed the need for harmonization and integration of the industry as it was the engine of growth for the country's economy. He indicated that both importers and exporters used the industry as a major source of transportation to get their products to their consumers around the world.

Mrs Naa Densua Aryeetey, Tema Branch Manager of the GSC, in a welcome address said the Council was appreciative of the role played by journalists in the country. She said being aware of the difficulty journalists faced in fully understanding the technical and specialized nature of the shipping industry, the GSC organized the seminar to enable the journalists to become conversant with the terminologies involved in the industry and report accurately. She referred to shipping as the "servant of trade" which was international and dynamic and said it would be difficult to have a successful transaction without a clear understanding of its terms and terminologies.
