Inhabitants in 60 communities calls for continuation of road works

Kasoa (C/R), Feb. 25, GNA - Inhabitants in 60 farming communities located in between Kasoa and Oboom area of the Central Region, have appealed to the government for the immediate resumption of rehabilitation works on the 36-kilometre Kasoa-Oboom road. Work on the road, which began late last year, has come to a standstill about three months ago amidst fear that it would not be continued.

A spokesman for the people, Nii Attorh-Kofi, chief of Kwame-Anum village, told a delegates conference of various communities in the area at Kasoa that the rehabilitation of the road, which was neglected completely by past governments was dear to the hearts of the people. Nii Attorh-Kofi said since the NPP administration commenced work on the road, farmers, workers and traders living in the 60 communities in the area have developed greater interest and confidence in the government, and hoped that every efforts would be made to resume work on the road as early as practicable to sustain the trust and confidence they have reposed in the government.

Nii Attorh-Kofi said the greatest problem facing farmers in the area was the deplorable condition of the road because it impedes the smooth transportation of large quantities of foodstuffs and industrial raw materials produced in the area.

An opinion leader from Horgbor, a village in the Oboom area, praised the government for initiating the rehabilitation works on the road, which he said, has suffered total neglect for more than 32 years, adding: "We shall lend all our support to the NPP if condition of our road is well improved within the next few months."

According to the opinion leader rehabilitation of the road would also facilitate the work of the Electoral Commission in the Oboom area in the forthcoming general elections.

Meanwhile, Nii Attorh-Kofi, who is also the Chairman of the Kasoa-Oboom branch of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union of the Trades Union Congress (TUC), has advised drivers plying the road to drive with care, in view of the nature of the road.
