Independence Schools Hold 6th Graduation Day

Obuasi, July 26, GNA - Headteachers and teachers in basic schools ha= ve been urged to ensure that effective teaching and learning takes place in schools to make parents' investments in education worthwhile.

Mr Johnny Owusu-Boadi, Obuasi Municipal Director of Education who made the call, also asked school management committees (SMCs) to collaborate wit= h their Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs) to create an ideal environment tha= t would enhance learning outcomes in schools.

He was delivering the keynote address at the 6th graduation day of Independence Schools at Obuasi, under the theme, 93Investment in Education= is Worthwhile". The Municipal Director stated that 93Investment in education can beco= me worthwhile when parents' investments in their children's education yiel= d dividends.

"It is therefore incumbent on you as heads to ensure that effective teaching and learning takes place at all times. What it means is that all unprofessional acts such as lateness to school and the other actions that disturb the child's instructional hours should cease forthwith", he tol= d heads of schools.

Mr Owusu-Boadi appealed to SMCs and PTAs to assist head teachers to enforce the kind of discipline that would encourage both teachers and pupil= s to work with dedication for good results commensurate with the investments being made in their education.

The Municipal Director told the graduands, 93Your parents' investme= nt in your education has not come to the end as it is our hope that all of you will pass well to enable you to enter Senior High Schools". He charged them to be respectful and dutiful to their parents and the elderly. Madam Grace Sarpomaah Amoako, headmistress of Independence J.H.S 91B= ', in her report announced that both 91A' and 91B' schools had scored 10= 0 per cent passes 93with commendable aggregates in the Basic Education Certifica= te Examinations (BECE) in the last six years"

Master Musah Iddrissu, the outgoing prefect of Independence JHS 91A= ' in his report appealed to the Municipal Assembly to construct a fence wall around the schools to prevent the rate at which the people were using the area as thoroughfare, thereby disrupting classes.
