Improve Assembly’s Internally Generated revenue – Tarkwa MCE

Tarkwa, July 23, GNA - Revenue collectors in the Tarkwa-Nsueam District Assembly have been urged to step up revenue collection to help accelerate the development of the area. M rs Christina Kobinah, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) made the call when she delivered her sectional address at the second ordinary meeting of the first session of the Municipal Assembly at Tarkwa.

She said as at May 31 this year, the Assembly was able to mobilize 2,228,796.96 Ghana cedis out of an estimated figure of 6,853,581.61 Ghana cedis.

The MCE explained that, the expenditure for the same period was 2,285,837.61 Ghana cedis, as against an estimated expenditure of 6,752,302.41 for this year.

She said the numerous development challenges facing the Assembly required an aggressive programme to mobilise sufficient money to transform the living conditions of the people in the area.

She added that if the Assembly failed to work harder to improve the internally generated fund, the Municipality would run into serious problems when inflows expected from Central Government did not arrive in good time.

Mrs Gifty E. Kusi, Member of Parliament (MP) for Tarkwa-Nsueam constituency, called on the assembly members to be vigilant in the supervision and monitoring of projects in their electoral areas, saying that they should take pragmatic steps to ensure that the Assembly benefitted from the huge investments being made.

Mrs Kusi said as principal stakeholders of the communities, the Assembly members had been given the opportunity to ensure proper collaboration with the people to promote peace and development.

She urged Assembly members to make good use of all the resources at their disposal to the benefit of the people they served and to be accountable to them as well.
