Illiteracy breeds indiscipline

Nsoatre (B/A) Jan 28, GNA- Nana Kwadwo Seinti, Brong Ahafo Regional Minister on Wednesday emphasized that high rate of illiteracy breeds indiscipline, misunderstanding and ignorance that retard a country's progress.

He was addressing the chiefs and people of Nsoatre, near Sunyani when he visited the town.

The Regional Minister urged Ghanaians to invest much in the education of their children and desist from wasting their resources on funerals and other social activities.

He advised parents to provide the needs of their school-going children to avoid them dropping out of school, "since education is the most important legacy and the only weapon with which to alleviate poverty".

Nana Seinti appealed to political leaders to educate party members to ensure peace and transparency in the forthcoming elections. Mr Barnabas Baffour Frimpong, chairman of Nsoatre Town Council appealed to the government to assist the people to settle a long-standing chieftaincy dispute in the town.

The dispute has stalled development in the town, as the people could not be mobilized for communal labour, he said.

He called for a permanent police quarters in the community to curb "unexpected ejections" of police personnel by landlords.

Mr Frimpong appealed for the rehabilitation of the health centre in the town to attract more qualified health personnel before the implementation of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).
