Illegal beach structures in Cape Coast to be demolished

Authorities in the Central regional capital Cape Coast are set to demolish some unauthorized pubs and restaurants along the beaches.

According to the authorities not only are the owners of such businesses engaging in an illegality as they do not have the permit to site and operate the centers but also the right procedures were not followed in erecting the structures thereby exposing the people closer to the sea to some health hazards as safety rules have been flouted

Some social amenities in the area including schools and even the roads risk being destroyed as there will be high volumes of tidal roads as a result of those illegal sitting of the centers with coconut trees serving as wind breaks being cut down .

Speaking to the media during a visit to the Ola beach to assess the situation on the ground the Central Regional Director of Land Use and Spatial Planning Authority, formerly, Town and Country Planning, Martey Korli, indicated that a definite decision has been reached during a stakeholders meeting to stop the operations at the beach to protect the beach front as the vegetation cover is being destroyed by the activities of the pubs thereby exposing the surrounding communities to danger.

Mr. Korli said the Assembly which is the planning authority will ensure that developments within the metropolis are consistent with planning regulations
