Ice Catering Institute holds graduation

Accra, June 14, GNA - The Ice Catering Institute, held its 10th graduation for 15 female students, who were awarded Certificates in catering studies, in Accra.

The students had completed studies in cookery, sugar craft and floral decoration.

Mrs Beatrice Otu, proprietress, said that the Institute had laid good foundation for the students to become responsible citizens. She called on Ghanaians to eat balanced diet saying 93We need energy for our daily activities and the most important source of this energy comes from the food we eat".

Mrs Out explained that food prepared by caterers needed to be attractive and appetizing to attract people to eat well and enhance their lives adding 93A woman who cooks well knows how to keep the home".

She encouraged the grandaunts to teach others what they had learnt and create lasting impressions in the mind of people who come for their services adding,"Be creative in cooking, do not stick to the same old dishes everyone prepares".

Mrs Emelia Okyere, the school Prefect, said the days when women were assigned to the kitchen alone were gone since modernization had increased the role of women in the family.

She said the role of women currently was now different from what pertained in the past since they now do excel in several endeavours and could not be underrated.

Mrs Okyere noted that when women, who acquired skills worked to supplement men's support.

She said skills training, like sugar craft, decoration and catering had no age limit.

Mrs Okyere noted that tourism had become the third foreign exchange earner for Ghana and most of the products of the trainees would be needed for the development of the sector.

She called on Ghanaian women to acquire vocational skills to enhance the duties as family members.
