IGP Tours Eastern Region

As part of his schedule to reach out to grass root policing, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Mr. Patrick Kwateng Acheampong paid a four day working visit to the Eastern Region.

The visit was to know at first hand problems affecting policing in the region and the general welfare of personnel in the region. Issues of accommodation and logistics, transfers, career development, discipline and professionalism cut across his interaction.

The IGP accompanied by his Chief Staff Officer, ACP/Mr. Patrick Timbilla, the Deputy Director of Police Public Affairs DSP Kwesi Ofori and other officers from National Headquarters visited and interacted with officers and personnel at Koforidua, Nkwakwa, Kyebi, and Mpraeso. He also visited Asesewa, Otekpolu, Kwahu Tafo and Kwahu Adawso.

Mr. Patrick Acheampong urged personnel particularly station officers to strive for professionalism, discipline and excellence saying that his administration has put in place programmes and policies that will enhance Police efficiency. He tasked station officer to serve as frontliners, ensuring that their communities appreciate the need to collaborate the efforts of the Police in their towns.

The IGP further briefed personnel on the Administration’s new policy guidelines and elaborating on policies on personnel engagement in international peacekeeping promotion and appointment in the service among others.

Mr. Patrick Acheampong also interacted with families of personnel at places he visited and entreated them to give the Police the needed support in the discharge of their work. At Asesewa, the IGP announced that the Police Administration will establish Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) desk to cater for cases of abuse in the area.

The Inspector-General of Police in his rounds informed personnel that government is procuring more riot control vehicles and equipment, an Automatic finger print machine and a new work and operational uniform for the Police under a Spanish protocol, an agreement between the Ghana government and her Spanish counterpart.

He assured communities visited that the Police Administration as a matter of urgency will transfer more personnel to their communities and others to augment the staff strength of the police. He therefore called on the various District Assemblies and Community leaders to endeavour to provide well deserved accommodation for personnel in their areas.

Mr. Patrick Acheampong also paid a courtesy call on the Okyehene Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin at his palace at Kyebi. The Okyehene commended the Police in his area for their good work and urged them to put in a lot of efforts to clamp down on illegal felling of lumber in his area.

The IGP assured the Okyehene that the Police in collaboration with other agencies will work assiduously to bring the activities of these illegal loggers to an end. He further stated that the Police will ensure and promote the security of all citizens irrespective of their areas of residence.
