Ho Court fines two for contempt

Ho, Oct. 29, GNA- A Ho High Court presided over by Mr Justice Richard Apaloo on Tuesday imposed a 500,000 cedis fine each on Kwaku Agboada and Kodzo Agboada both of Anloga for contempt of Court.

They were found guilty of preventing their father, Amega Dotse Gaga Dosu Agboada from appearing before the Court on Monday, October 22, to answer a charge of contempt with four others in connection with the Awomefia Stool Affairs pending before the Volta Region House of Chiefs. Kwaku Agboada, 18, unemployed and Kodzo Agboada, 27, a teacher, were given two weeks to pay the fines or go to prison for 30 days each.

Mr Justice Apaloo said the court had considered the plea for leniency by their counsel, Mr Ernest Gaewu. However, in view of the circumstances in which they acted, he would not let them go unpunished because others might do likewise to frustrate the course of justice. They explained that their father was not only blind but seriously ill and was not in a position to attend court at Ho that day when some people at dawn were around to ask him to accompany them.

That compelled them to prevent their father from travelling to attend the Court and that it was only when their Counsel had explained the gravity of the offence to them that they realised that they were at fault and therefore pleaded for mercy.
