Happy Ever After to construct vocational, technical institute

Accra, Aug. 24, GNA - Happy Ever After, a Non Governmental Organisation (NGO), committed to assisting the youth especially school drop-outs, is to construct an ultra-modern Vocational and Technical Institute to train them to acquire skills for meaningful living. To this end, it has acquired a large plot of land at Kwasi Nyarko, a village in the Upper West Akim District of the Eastern Region to construct the facility which will serve the needs of all youth across the country.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency in Accra on Monday, Nana Otua Owusua I, Akwaboahene of Akropong Akuapim and Founder of Happy Ever After, said the project aimed at taking the youth out of the streets and providing them with skills to realize their full potential. She said youth unemployment due to the lack of professional skills had assumed an alarming rate putting the country's future in danger. She said; "This is why Happy Ever After is embarking on this project," and that government alone could not solve all the problems affecting the youth.

Nana Otua Owusua I, also a member of the Pan African Writers Association, said the school would, in affiliation with other similar institutions, introduce programmes such as bakery, hairdressing, sewing, wiring, carpentry, manicure and pedicure techniques which were basic skills needed to make a living.

She said the school would initially concentrate on empowering young ladies by taking them through sewing, hairdressing, bakery, tie and dye and batik making.

Nana Otua Owusua I called on parents to do all to ensure that their children had access to quality education to enable them to become responsible citizens.

She called on corporate organizations to donate to the NGO to enhance its activities. Happy Ever After was launched in Accra earlier this year as a fully fledged NGO to engage in skills training and development of the youth.
