Grave looters invade Seth Okai town

Seth Okai (C/R), Oct. 23, GNA - Panic has gripped residents of Seth Okai, near Nsaba in the Agona East District of the Central Region, following the looting of the grave of one Kwesi Matrifi, who was buried one and half months ago.

The late Matrifi, a chainsaw operator, was trapped by a tree he was felling at Techiman in the Brong Ahafo Region and was killed instantly. Mr O.J.J. Anaman, Assemblyman for Seth Okai who disclosed this to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Agona Nsaba, in an interview said on 19 October, he had a phone call that a grave had been looted at the cemetery. He said he directed the head of Matrifi's family and other opinion leaders to report the incident to the Nsaba Police.

Mr Anaman said part of the coffin was cut of with a saw. He said some residents had linked the incident to the work of "Sakawa" (fraudsters) operators in the area who had plan to remove certain parts of the body for rituals.

Mr Anaman appealed to the Police to extend their night patrols to the area.

A source at the Nsaba Police confirmed the story to the GNA and said investigations were on-going to unravel the mystery behind the heinous crime.

The source advised towns and villages in the area to revive all watch-dog committees to supplement the efforts of the Police to reduce criminal activities.
