Gomoa communities assured of fair share of national cake

Gomoa Awommerew (C/R), Oct. 15, GNA - The Gomoa District Chief Executive, Madam Joyce Mildred Aidoo has stressed that the government would not shirk its responsibility in the provision of basic amenities to the people.

Madam Aidoo said every hamlet in the country would have its fair share of the national cake from the HIPC funds in the areas of health, schools, water, roads and others.

The DCE made these remarks at a special handing over of a 120 million cedi HIPC benefit project at Gomoa Awommerew near Agona Swedru. The project, a ten-seater "Enviro-Loo" toilet has the same features as the "water closet - WC" but this does not use water.

Mr Edward D. Holdbrook, Managing Director, Environmental, Civil and Mining Projects Limited (ECMP), said the Enviro-Loo project was introduced into the country about five years ago from South Africa and that there were more than 2000 constructed nation-wide. He said 27 more were under construction in 18 districts of which Central Region had two located at Gomoa Awommerew and Kokoben in Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam District.

He mentioned other beneficiaries as Greater Accra, Ga Rural, Kumasi Metropolis, Sunyani, New Edubiase, Yendi, Bawku, Boso, Nalerigu, Nkawkaw, and Nkwatia.

Others are Konongo, Nkawie, Mpohor, Pekyi Number Two and Nkenkansu. According to the Managing Director, the Enviro-Loo does not produce much odour as compared to the KVIPs and has a long lifespan. Nana Kwabena Acquah who received the keys to the facility expressed his people's appreciation to the government for coming to their aid and called for immediate action on the proposal for electricity supply to the town.

He gave the assurance that his people would take good care of the project to enable it last.
