Godfrey Bayoun ends tour of Eastern Region

Donkorkrom (E/R), Nov. 27, GNA - The Minister of State at the Ministry of Transportation, Mr Godfrey Bayoun, on Monday ended his two-day tour of roads in the Eastern Region at the Kwahu North District where he inspected roads under construction. Among the projects that he inspected included the construction of Ekye Amanfrom/Donkorkrom road, Donkorkrom Town roads being funded by the Road Fund.

The other roads that he inspected were the Tease/Anlo/Faase/Adrom road, Abotanso/Kofinyina/Apesika road and Kwapong Nkwanta/Mamikrobo road that were being funded by the European Union. The Eastern Regional Manager of Feeder Roads, Mr Bernard Badu, told the minister that the Ekyi Amamfrom/Donkorkrom road was awarded on contract in 2003 to be completed in 2004 but was later revised to 2006 because of difficulties in the acquisition of chippings for the project.

He said 64 per cent of construction works on the 77.1-kilometer road had been completed. Mr Badu said the 75-kilometer Donkorkrom town road was awarded on contract in 2004 at the cost of 2.7 billion cedis to be completed in 2005 but the contractor working on the project requested for the extension of the time for completion due to difficulties in procurement of chippings.

He said so far 53 per cent of the project had been completed. The Minister, who was accompanied by the Kwahu North District Chief Executive Mr. Solomon Fordjour, expressed satisfaction at progress of work in the district and said the government would continue to support the development of the area.

Mr Bayoun commended the contractors working on projects in the district and expressed concern about delays on some road works and that his ministry would not entertain such behaviour from contractors. 27 Nov 07
