Ghana Water Company restores Daboase water clarifier

The default water clarifier at the Daboase intake and treatment plant of the Ghana Urban Water Company Limited has been reconstructed to boost water production in the Western Region.

Mr. Stanley Martey, Communication Manager of the company told the Ghana News Agency in an interview on the sidelines at the just ended policy fair in the region that the clarifier which broke down about four months ago contributed to low production.

The policy fair is a platform created by the government to enable Ministries, Departments and Agencies and other stakeholders to among other things highlight guiding principles governing public course of action.

Currently, the company is rationing water within the Sekondi/Takoradi Metropolis as a mechanism of meeting the daily water needs of the people.

He added that the reconstructed clarifier would increase production by 50 per cent.

In future, the company hopes to expand the Daboase treatment plant to produce 28 million gallons of water daily as against the current six million gallons.

Another water treatment plant would be constructed at Esiama to boost water supply in the region.

Mr. Martey said the company had disilted the brass intake and constructed an embankment to assist in raw water storage as well as preventing seawater intrusion, which made water treatment expensive.

The Communications Manager expressed displeasure about the activities of galamsey operators (illegal miners) which he said was really affecting the company’s activities.**
