GPRTU awards drivers

Agona-Swedru (C/R), Jan. 6, GNA - More than 100 commercial drivers operating under the Agona Swedru-Accra Number Four branch of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), have been given annual awards ranging from 100,000 cedis to 200,000 cedis at a ceremony at Agona-Swedru.

According to the Chairman of the branch, Mr. Isaac Kwadwo Otoo, the awards were in appreciation of the prudent measures adopted by management and effectively implemented by the drivers, which enabled the branch to achieve accident-free record last year.

Mr. Otoo praised the drivers for rendering one of the most important functions, which is careful handling of vehicles to protect the lives of the numerous passengers they transported to and from Accra during the period under review.

He also commended Mr. Kwesi Larbie, the Station Master, Mr. John Kwame Essilifi, an Administrator, and Mr. Kofi Quaye-Mensah, the First Trustee all of the branch union, for their excellent contributions towards the running of the union and advised them to keep it up.

He however, warned both drivers and branch leaders of the union not to be complacent of their achievements in the past year but to work harder for improvement in the ensuing year.
