GES develops a manual for management efficiency.

The Ghana Education Service (GES) as part of efforts to promote management efficiency, has developed a manual for its Directors of Education.

The manual titled “leadership Change”, is a collaborative work of the Service and the United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF) and would serve as training material and handbook for the directors.

A three-day “trial testing and validation” workshop on the manual has been held in Kumasi for some selected education directors.

Mr. Samuel Ansah, Director of Teacher Education Division of the GES, said the manual would provide them with managerial skills to meet the challenges and dynamics of the present-day education.

He said moves towards decentralization puts the education director at the centre of all implementation activities; that is why officials at the education directorates would need to be adequately prepared to enhance their performance.

Mr. Ansah said the manual is meant to expose the directors to relevant knowledge and skills for efficient management, have better understanding of policies, strategies and guiding principles of the GES as well as financial administration.

They need to be aided to properly manage both human and material resources in their areas of jurisdiction.

He encouraged them to critically examine the manual and to provide useful suggestions to fine-tune it.

Mr. Joseph Kwabena Onyinah, the Ashanti Regional Education Director said effective leadership was vital for progress.**
