Frequent fuel shortage in Bolgatanga municipality

Bolgatanga Sept. 6 GNA- Mr. Isaac Nsoh Amoah, Bolgatanga Municipal Chief Executive, on Thursday expressed concern at the frequent fuel shortage in the Municipality, saying it was distressful to the people. He alleged that some fuel station attendants and businessmen, who were hoarding and smuggling the commodity, were artificially causing the shortage and said it was not a nationwide problem.

Mr. Amoah said those engaged in the practices were buying fuel in large quantities and selling it at higher prices during normal shortage or smuggling it out to neighbouring countries.

The Regional Minister was speaking at the Second Ordinary Meeting of the Municipal Assembly, at Bolgatanga. He urged the assembly members to educate their people on the need to expose fuel smugglers and hoarders.

Mr. Amoah said "We live with them and we know them, we can closely monitor these artificial fuel shortages and expose those involved in it."

He said the Assembly ensured that all houses had toilets and bathrooms and gave the assurance that the Assembly would build more public toilets and renovate the old ones to improve sanitary conditions of the people.

Mr. Amoah cautioned landlords and landladies against building bad bathrooms that caused spill over of waste water on the streets. He said the Assembly had plans to provide more school infrastructure and called on the Ghana Education Service to properly acquire lands for school projects to avert any future claims and counter claims by land owners.

Mr. Amoah advised private school owners to register their institutions.
