French NGO Donates Computers and furniture to Schools in Nangodi

Nangodi (U/E), Oct 8, GNA - A French non-governmental organization, Empowering Children of Nangodi (ECN), on Friday donated four desk-top computers and 30 tables and chairs to the Nangodi Primary and Junior High Schools in the Talensi-Nabdam District. The donation was made by the Board Chairman of the ECN and his wife, Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Schmitt. The Headmaster of the Nangodi Junior High School, Mr Francis Sapaat, said the NGO had contributed a lot to the development of the schools.

He said between October 2009 and October 2010, the NGO donated 13,352.53 Ghana cedis to the school that was used to rehabilitate two classroom blocks, build a kitchen for the primary school and day nursery and put up a computer laboratory.

The NGO has taken care of the health needs of 13 pupils and their parents through the National Health Insurance Scheme, paid six voluntary teachers of the school, electricity bills, provided educational materials.

Mr Gerald Schmitt said he was glad to see the level of improvement at the Nangodi Primary and JHS and promised more support for the schools in the near future.

He said plans were far advanced to provide livelihood empowerment programmes through the provision of micro credit facilities and providing capacity building programmes for women to undertake viable ventures to support their children's education. The District Director of Education, Mr Francis Ayaaba who received the items, thanked the NGO for the donation. The District Director of the National Service Scheme, Mr Michael Zure, said his outfit would post more teachers, especially in ICT and French, to the School.
