Francais Pour Tous Au Ghana launched

Francais Pour Tous Au Ghana (FPTAG), a French for all in Ghana project, has been launched in Accra to enable the youth gain more insight on the language.

This would help promote its use as an alternate medium of communication for Ghanaians in the West African sub region.

Mr Emmanuel Yawo Amegavi, President Francais Pour Tous Au Ghana, said communicating in French has been a source of embarrassment to many leaders and businessmen seeking to effectively share ideas with their colleagues.

He said the ability to speak French fluently by some African leaders such as Kofi Annan, Dr Mohammed Ibn Chambas among others, enabled them to gain international recognition and their present roles.

He said the next generation of leaders are expected to do more than their predecessors; hence French for all in Ghana project.

Mr Amegavi said the project has set an ambitious agenda termed Agenda 2050, which states that by the stated year, 50 per cent of Ghanaians should be able to communicate adequately in French.

This will help facilitate business transactions and boost diplomatic bonds between Ghanaians and other Francophone countries around the world, he said.

Mr Stephen Kwaku Darku, Executive Director FPTAG, said the project would ensure that more teachers are dispatched to schools in remote areas to teach French.

He said the project shall also initiate a national French quiz programme among Junior High Schools students.

Mrs Juliana Opokua Dapaah, Headmistress Anyaa MA 1 Basic School, said the lack of textbooks for teaching the language has been a major problem and urged executives of the project to ensure that textbooks were made more readily available.
