Four schools in Hohoe District score zero percent in BECE

Hohoe, Oct 17, GNA- Four Junior High Schools (JHS) in the Hohoe District scored zero percent in the recent 2007 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

The Schools are, Have-Alavanyo, Liati-Teikrom, Leklebi-Dafor and Tafi-Abuife Local Authority JHS. Ms Juliet D. B. Kumah, Hohoe District Director of Education who disclosed this to the Ghana News Agency said a total of 2,963 candidates from 97 JHS including 12 private Schools were presented for the Examinations. She said 1,358 candidates passed, with aggregates between six-30, which represented 45.83 percent, with a total of 1,605 failing to qualify.

Ms Kumah said 747 out of 1,560 boys' candidates passed representing 47.88 percent with 611 girls out of 1,403 candidates passing and recording 43.54 percent.

She however indicated that four private and a public JHSs scored an incredible results of 100 percent.

She said seven candidates from Hohoe Sunrise Christian Academy obtained aggregates six, with five others from Saint Joseph's Preparatory JHS scoring aggregates six and a candidate from the Have Rijnbeck Catholic JHS recording aggregate six. Ms Kumah said Have JHS and Gbi-Atabu Roman Catholic JHS, the only public schools in the top group recorded 100 percent passes by virtue of the fact that every candidate passed the BECE. She said the remaining 88 Schools scored between 99 percent and one percent. Ms Kumah was of the view that the new Educational Reforms would bridge the yawning gap between public and private schools.
