Former PM calls for realistic allowances for pensioners

Jasikan (V/R), July 8, GNA - A former Presiding Member has appealed to the government to increase the monthly allowances of pensioners to enable them to lead decent lives.

Mr Edward Siaw-Ken, former Presiding Member of the Jasikan District Assembly, made the appeal when addressing about 100 pensioners from the Jasikan District at a get-together at Jasikan to mark Ghana's 43rd Republic Anniversary.

"What we are taking at the moment is inadequate. The government should plan a 'strategic' salary for pensioners.''

The Jasikan District Co-ordinating Director, Mr Ahmadu Omar Dabou, said the pensioners should place their rich experiences at the disposal of the district assembly and offer criticisms that would help the assembly to progress.
