Flood victims receive relief items.

Wanawanaso(w/r), July 22, GNA - Victims of the recent floods in Wanawanso in the Mpohor Wassa East district have been assured of government's assistance to ameliorate their hardship. Mr. Anthony Bassaw, District Chief Executive (DCE) for Mpohor Wassa East, gave the assurance when he presented relief items to victims of the recent floods at Wanawanasa near Mpohor on Monday. The items included four packets of roofing sheets, three bales of second-hand clothing, 30 student mattresses and blankets, 30 bags of rice, and an assortment of plastic bowls and cups. Six mud houses collapsed, 22 others were flooded while 266 victims were displaced in the event. The DCE told the victims that government shared their pain and that the items were meant to alleviate their suffering and restore hope in them.

He pledged that when the rains and flood waters subsided, planners would be dispatched to see how best to assist them to prevent a re-occurrence of similar disasters in future, but reminded them that those who continued to build on water ways could suffer more flooding if they refused to abide by directives from technical experts. Mr. Kofi A. Bosompim, Coordinator of the Mpohor National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), said disasters were a part of human existence, so the people should not hesitate to inform NADMO about any such occurences. He added, however, that preventable disasters should be avoided at all cost.
