Five feed roads in Nzema East to be tarred this year

Axim, (W/R), Feb. 16, GNA- Four feeder roads in the Nzema East District are to be tarred this year, under the government policy of tarring a total of fifteen kilometres of road network in each district in the country,

They are the 4.3 kilometres Axim-Ankobra Junction, 3.6 kilometres Apataim Junction-Apataim, 6.1 kilometre Axim-Agyan and the 1.0 Kilometre Nsein Township roads. The District Chief Executive (DCE) for the Area, Mr Joshua Kwajah-Ellimah said this at the Ordinary General Meeting of the Assembly at Axim.

He said five communities are slated to benefit from good drinking water supply. They are Issakro, Gwira Biabiani, Gwira Wiawso, Abrodiem and Tumentu

The DCE said the government has decided to fund a number of priority projects annually in each district and mentioned roads, water and electricity supply as some of the projects to be benefited by the district.

Mr Kwajah-Ellimah said the Assembly was not able to achieve the target of its Internally Generated Funds (IGF), but did not give out reasons for that. He said out of an estimated total of GHc188,253.44, the Assembly was able to collect GHc158,653.15, representing 84.28 percent and called on Assembly Members and Revenue collectors to double their efforts to ensure an improved revenue generation to enable the Assembly to undertake development projects.

The Presiding Member of the Assembly, Mr J.N. Essien, bemoaned the weak financial position of the Assembly and said efforts must be made to increase revenue mobilization. The two MPs for the Area, Mr Freddie Blay and Mr Kojo Armah in their messages read to the Assembly, urged members to continue working hard towards the development of the area.
