Five Atwima schools receive C15m QUIPS micro grant

Nkawie (Ash), Nov. 1, GNA - The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) under its Quality Improvement in Primary Schools (QUIPS) programme, has given 15 million cedis micro grant to five primary schools in the Atwima District of Ashanti. The schools, Atwima-Mim Local Authority, Esaso Methodist, Srebuoso Local Authority, Domiabra and Kansarkrom Local Authority, received three million cedis each.

The grant is to be used to improve teaching and learning in the schools through the effective implementation of their School Performance Improvement Plan (SPIP) prepared early this year by the communities. It forms part of the QUIPS/ILP second phase pilot educational improvement programme for 20 selected schools in the district. All the teachers in the selected schools have benefited from a training programme in Mathematics and English methodology, good writing skills and preparation of teaching and learning materials.

Presenting the cheques to the beneficiary School Management Committees (SMCs) at Nkawie on Friday, Mr R. Owusu-Agyemang, Co-ordinator of the District Management Implementation Team of QUIPS/ILP, cautioned them against any malfeasance in the disbursement of the grant.

He implored them to strictly abide by the guidelines received at a two-day workshop in the implementation of the programme. Mr Owusu-Agyemang, who is also the Assistant Director of Education in-charge of the Public Relations Unit, warned that non-performing teachers would be sanctioned.

Madam Grace Mensah, Srebuoso Head teacher on behalf of the SMCs thanked QUIPS/ILP for the intervention and promised that the grant would be used to achieve its set goals.
